What is teeth whitening?

Having a bright, white, smile will not only lift your day but also lift the spirits of everyone around you when they look at you — and they will look at you! Teeth whitening is the quickest and easiest way to give you a confidence boost and to improve your smile.

We’re proud to offer a whitening system with custom moulded trays to allow for the best possible results. Professional teeth whitening requires a two week process and the results can last several years when you look after your teeth properly.

How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth whitening involves using a special dental bleach (hydrogen peroxide) to lighten your teeth while keeping your natural look. Teeth whitening will give your smile an all-over improvement to the colour, and can also help minimise the looks of stains which have often formed from things like tea, coffee, red wine and smoking.

While teeth whitening isn’t going to give your teeth a brilliant white (this is best achieved through composite bonding or veneers), it is a great way to reverse staining and lighten the teeth.

The bleach used during the process is completely safe and at Smiles and Smiles, we only use the highest grade products.

Our whitening process

At Smiles and Smiles, we follow a simple three step process to give you the best possible results:

Digital scan

First, we take a digital scan of your teeth in order to create a digital form

Tray Fitting

Using the digital form, we use technology to create your bespoke whitening trays which will fit you perfectly

Bleaching begins

You then wear the trays with a bleaching solution for 10-14 days. Et voilà, a new white smile!

Professional in-clinic vs at-home teeth whitening

We recommend a combination of professional and at-home teeth whitening at Smiles and Smiles.

Once we have moulded your custom trays, we will provide you with a whitening kit to take home with you. You will then use the kit for 30-minutes twice a day for 10-14 days (depending on your desired results), wearing your custom trays with a whitening gel.

During your appointment, you’ll be shown how to fit and fill your whitening trays so you’ll leave confident and happy with the process.

Is teeth whitening right for you?

There are a number of reasons why you might get your teeth whitened. Everyone is different; and just as our hair and skin colour vary, so do our teeth. Very few people have brilliant-white teeth, and our teeth can also become more discoloured as we get older.

There are a few requirements you should be aware of before you make a booking:

You must be over the age of 18

You should already have a good standard of oral health, meaning you might like to have a hygienist appointment and check up with your regular dentist before booking in for whitening

Teeth whitening can only be administered to your natural teeth, so if you have composite bonding or veneers, you should book a consultation with one of our dentists to discuss your whitening options

All of the above can be discussed with one of our Treatment Advisors before your appointment is booked, to ensure you’re confident this is the right treatment for you and that you’ll achieve the results you are looking for. When you have started your course of whitening, we recommend that you avoid things such as red wine, turmeric, tea & coffee and smoking. This is all in aid of giving you the best possible, long-lasting results!

Your teeth might also be more sensitive than normal, so you might want to switch out your usual toothpaste for one that is specifically designed for sensitivity. You can read more about the aftercare process here.

How much is teeth whitening?

Our Treatment Advisor will talk you through the benefits and limitations of each treatment option to ensure that we create for you an amazing smile at a price point that is affordable.
